Epic performance by ARIANA GRANDE and CYNTHIA ERIVO at MET GALA 2024
In front of the mystical temple of Danthor, Derek McClane’s cleverly designed lush and forest-themed set opened the curtain for Monday MET GALA night’s solo performance. Grande, adorned in a custom Maison Margiela Artisanal ensemble by John Galliano, marked a significant change in her red carpet style: from a white Loewe gown paired with intricately sculpted corsetry to the dazzling presentation of this multi-layered suit.
Grande’s attire is ingeniously crafted: beneath the gray-and-white spiderweb petticoat, a sheer organza blouse is adorned with exquisite lace and linear embroidery. The surprise comes with a forest-green cascading chiffon gown embellished with rose appliqués, hand-painted gold dust, crystals, and mirrored embroidery, perfectly merging with the cascading chiffon skirt, bodice, and soft pastel sashes. Completing the ensemble, are Christian Louboutin’s hand-painted Tabis shoes customized for Maison Margiela, adding the final touch to the overall look.
Grande’s styling is designed by Mimi Cuttrell, makeup by Michael Anthony, hair by Alyx Liu, and nail art by Daniel Taverez for NailGlam Production.
In this spectacular performance, Ariana Grande was surrounded by 30 dancers and 40 members of the Broadway Inspirational Voices choir. She skillfully blended her most beloved songs, including “Into You” from “Dangerous Woman,” “7 Rings” from “Thank U, Next,” and a medley of “The Boy Is Mine,” “We Can’t Be Friends,” and “Yes, And” from her latest album “Eternal Sunshine.” The performance paid homage to fairy tales, starting enchantingly with “Once,” a song inspired by Disney’s 1959 classic animated film “Sleeping Beauty.” Directed by Michael Arden, who won the 2023 Tony Award for “Parade,” this MET GALA performance truly celebrated music and storytelling.
In this thrilling finale, Erivo and Grande stood together on stage to perform “When You Believe,” a song made famous by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston in 1998. Erivo wore a rose-colored houndstooth jacquard gown from Thom Browne’s Fall 2013 collection.
