ESTEE LAUDER RACES KERING IN PURCHASING TOM FORD WITH A 2.8 BILLION DOLLAR BUYOUT.

Last week, Kering Group was on the front lines for the purchase of the American brand of Tom Ford. However, now Estee Lauder has come out and confirmed their deal of the purchase with a 2.8 Billion Dollar.

Tom Ford’s high-end fragrances routinely make best-seller lists, and the deal, the luxury industry’s biggest this year. This also brings apparel to Estée Lauder, which had been strictly focused on beauty.

SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ESTEE LAUDER?

The brand will now have all the knowledge to make the beauty and fragrances (and eyewear) grow and thrive from day 1. However, it is also possible that with all the acquired knowledge, and expertise. The need for Tom to remain could disappear. Which might likely reduce or stunt the growth of the apparel line, since the company has a strong focus on the beauty sector. It could also result in the exact opposite, and grow in the direction to grow in a new sector.

Overall, to make the best out of the investment done so far and because it would be easier to further develop the brand in a very profitable way, even without the Texan designer

In its history, Estée Lauder has always been very dynamic on the shopping front, always preferring smaller brands and above all close to its core business. It is most likely, the cosmetics giant that has been led by an Italian manager Fabrizio Freda since 2009, he would invest in a company he knows well and with which he has worked in perfumes and skincare for several years, as well as diversifying his investments.

Given Estée Lauder’s limited experience in the luxury fashion industry, it is unclear whether, upon completion of the transaction, Estée Lauder would be able to license Tom Ford-branded apparel and accessories to a specialist group.
