London Fashion Week

has long been an incubator for young talent with non-profits like Fashion East contributing to its funding. Alongside, when big brands such as Burberry and Belgian designer Raf Simons cancelled their shows, it dulled the expectations of the event. However, after a call between the British Fashion Council and designers, the London fashion community rallied together to move ahead with the planned week of events in a way that respected both the national mood and the industry planning.

HIGHLIGHTS

The events kicked off with Netflix‘s ‘Next in Fashion’ series runner-up Daniel w. Fletcher. The circumstances presented him with the wonderful opportunity as well as the responsibility of setting the tone for the entire upcoming week. He opened the show by observing one-minute silence in honour of the queen’s passing, followed by a model walking in an all-black suit in recognition of her mourning.

There was no lack of creativity during the following shows. Harris Reed’s gender-fluid demi-couture came to life in a catwalk show that portrayed the story of a ballroom. His every challenging outlook on traditional gender norms was a highlight of his creations. His designs, mainly made with silk taffeta rendered in his usual extravagance, in the form of giant circles were a delight to the audience.
