Dior will take its next cruise 2025 show to Scotland

On June 3, Dior will present its Cruise 2025 collection in Drummond Castle’s Renaissance-style terraced gardens in Perthshire, Scotland.

Scotland will be the location for the next Dior cruise show

After presenting Cruise ’24 in Mexico City and Cruise ’23 in Seville, Chiuri is adding this season’s presentation to the Maison’s group of destination shows. Chiuri and the Dior crew are heading to the British Isles for Cruise ’25, where they will present the collection in a stunning Scottish setting.

The runway will take place specifically in Drummond Castle Gardens in Perthshire. The formal, 17th-century Renaissance garden will serve as the setting for Chiuri’s most recent works. Although the collection’s level of influence from the country’s culture is unknown, we can anticipate it to be as enchanting as its surroundings.

Dior commented in a release:

“A poetic invitation where past and future meet, celebrating the unique, powerful ties forged from the very beginnings of the House, for the autumn-winter 1947 défilé.”

The most famous use of Drummond Castle is probably as the home of the evil Montrose (played by John Hurt) in the 1995 movie Rob Roy.

The brand has travelled to Scotland before. For its spring 1955 collection, the house hosted a ball at the neighbouring Gleneagles Hotel in the 1950s.

Lady Jane Heathcote-Drummond Willoughby, the 28th Baroness Willoughby de Eresby and the heiress of the 3rd Earl of Ancaster, currently resides in the castle. She served as a maid of honour at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II as well.

Dior has established a solid reputation for collaborating with regional artists and craftspeople on yearly cruise collections under Chiuri’s direction. Dior most recently held its final cruise collection in Mexico City, having previously visited Seville and Athens.

The french brand is not the first well-known fashion brand to select Scotland as the venue for a runway show. Karl Lagerfeld held a 2012 Métiers d’Art exhibition at Linlithgow Castle, which is located outside of Edinburgh, ten years ago.

Cruise 2024 collection in Mexico City

For Maria Grazia Chiuri, Mexico is a constellation of emotionally charged locations. Like it was for surrealist painters like Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo, as well as for Tina Modotti, who photographed the people and landscapes of Mexico, it was a “place of the soul.”

At the centre of the Dior cruise 2024 collection, the iconic figure of Frida Kahlo continues to offer a powerful connection to this culture and, in this case, to the brand.

There’s a pink dress that looks like it could have been worn by Frida Kahlo in one of her self-portraits. The variety of cotton, hemp, and silk laces chosen, the painstaking designs of the collars that sublimate the jersey and black velvet, and the butterfly-like jacquards all contribute to the alluring beauty of fragility.

Reintroduced in a captivating colour palette, velvet accentuates the hips with pleated skirts that open into corollas. In addition, butterflies are abundant on the toile de Jouy, illustrating Mexican flora and fauna in addition to parrots, monkeys, and strelitzias that accentuate Frida Kahlo’s paintings.

The exhibition’s location, the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, where the renowned Mexican painter attended school, is a reflection of the intimate factor that inspired Maria Grazia Chiuri.

It was at this significant place that she met her mentor and lifelong love, Diego Rivera. Mexican feminist artist Elina Chauvet gave a performance in this esteemed setting.
