DOMUS ACADEMY FASHION SHOW 2017
Domus Academy Fashion Show Collections
On November 6th at Base Milano the Design Academy, Domus Academy, presented the Domus Academy Fashion Show during the three day Fashion Graduate Italia 2017 event. The collections of 6 fresh graduates paraded down the cat walk with interesting themes such as MEN-TAL-ENT by Yibei Liang and Autistic by Kanglei Wang.
The theme, Autistic, by Wang, revolves around the behavior of autistic people. He claims, they are often very quiet and have difficulties in communication or social interactions. So, he repeats the Chinese slogan through the collection, “strangers, keep away from me and fools, do not bother me.” With this theme, the print pattern comes from autistic children’s drawings and the garments have buckles and straps that help define the wearer’s own space.
The other theme, MEN-TAL-ENT, is a combination between MENTAL and TALENT. The inspiration is a 1926 Japanese avant-garde film called “A Page of Madness” directed by Teinosuke Kinugasa, where a family lives inside/outside of a mental asylum. Liang believes, “we see things the way they are, but these sensitive minds have a distorted yet much more personal perception of these things.” The collection combines Japanese kimonos and asylum uniforms with a bright narration expressed through color. A big congratulations to all the designers showcased during the fashion show; Gyanendu Baruah, Adireg Comenoi, Yibei Liang, Giorgia Rosano, Kanglei Wang and Tritti Tarkulwaranont.
Also, with the fashion show, there was a Domus Academy Exhibition booth showcasing the collection of alumna, Zeynep Guntas and her brand GUNTAS. The exhibition was designed by 2 Domus Academy students: Azalia Musa and Daniella Villafuerte.
