Les De(ux)mains du luxe event: 30 Maisons join forces to promote employment in the luxury sector

Les De(ux)mains du luxe event is an initiative that seeks to expose the next generation to career and training opportunities in the luxury industry, which is always seeking new talent. The event took place last week from 14 to 17 December.

France holds a significant position in the luxury market, which is predicted to be valued at nearly 380 billion euros by the end of the year due to the concentration of several major houses and expertise. Over a million people are employed directly or indirectly in the French luxury market alone. This is despite the baby boomer generation’s retirement, a lack of education in many professions related to the industry, and rising demand for high-end goods and services.

Nowadays, a great deal of industries are vying for increased awareness, particularly from the younger generations who are just beginning to focus on their careers.

The Les De(ux)mains du luxe event initiative was started last year by the Comité Colbert, an organization dedicated to the promotion, transmission, and development of French luxury, with the goal of enticing students—especially those in high school—to pursue careers in luxury.

This year, 30 members of the committee participated in the new edition, which was held at Station F in the east of Paris, following the participation of 20 members in 2022. These include the jewelry designers Boucheron, Cartier, Van Cleef, and Arpels, as well as hotels like the Ritz Paris, Plaza Athénée, and Meurice. LVMH, Chanel‘s 19M, Hermès, and Chloé are a few of these.

The four days of the program planned for Les De(ux)mains du luxe event were devoted to learning various skills through themed conferences and hands-on workshops, including sewing, jewelry making, needlework, gilding, and table setting. Exchanges with training organizations, Meilleurs Apprentis de France, and Meilleurs Ouvriers de France, among others.

As part of this event, Colbert also announced the formation of a partnership with TikTok in an effort to increase visibility even further among these audiences. The social network, which is becoming more and more popular with luxury recruiters, is putting young enthusiasts to the test these days by giving them ten seconds to share their career path and favorite piece of knowledge, with a prize of 5,000 euros up for grabs.

Cartier makes a lasting impression on the next generation of craftspeople by being more prominent at the Les De(ux)mains du Luxe 2023 event second edition.

Cartier has doubled the number of workbenches in this year’s Les De(ux)mains du luxe event due to the popularity of last year’s workshops, allowing young visitors to try out four main jewelry-making crafts. In order to enhance the educational aspect of its engagement, Cartier provided middle and high school students with an HR workshop that outlined training and career opportunities in the jewelry industry, specifically at Cartier, as well as a showcase that outlined each stage in a piece’s production. Additionally, helpful CV writing and interview preparation strategies were offered.

With 340 artisans—more than half of whom are women—Cartier’s Jewellery and High Jewellery workshops rank among the most significant in the world. Twenty-minute workshops led by the artisans offered a practical introduction to different areas of expertise around the workbench. The young guests were introduced to Cartier’s four primary crafts—jewellery-making, gem-setting, stone-cutting, and polishing—in order to fully immerse them in the brand’s culture.

This year, the introductory workshops were a part of an extensive information drive that attested to Cartier’s extensive training program and its goal of providing young people with real opportunities in demanding, fascinating, and dynamic artistic fields. Similar to the previous year, Cartier invited about twenty middle school students to the Cartier Jewellery Institute stage.

Conclusion: Thirty companies were brought together by the Colbert Committee for the second Les De(ux)mains du luxe event, which was held in Paris from December 14–17, 2023.
