The Mob Wife aesthetic 2024

Mob Wife aesthetic came back when a 28-year-old Canadian blockchain product developer named Kayla Trivieri shared a video declaring: “Clean girl is out; mob wife era is in, okay?”

Mob Wife came to replace the Clean Girl aesthetic

Recently, the “mob wife aesthetic” has become popular on TikTok as a fashion trend. It is distinguished by outrageous, extravagant apparel replete with designer logos, bold, winged eyeliner, sheer lipstick, and unnecessarily long acrylic French tips. Black leather, statement jewelry, faux fur coats, and animal prints are all in style right now.

The following items are essential to nailing the mob-wife trend if you want to master it:

  • faux fur coat that screams “Yes, this is my casual look”.

Never forget that bigger is better. The concept is “She is a legend who deserves to be celebrated”.

These declarative, catchy “aesthetics” are pushed to the top of our feed by TikTok’s algorithm, but they are frequently criticized for being superficial and having little to do with what people are actually doing or experiencing in real life. The most recent to emerge is the “mob wife aesthetic.” However, it does defy current trends because of its mature, brash attitude and real-life cultural roots, which seem to be a shift.

Certainly, before TikTok made it popular, women were dressing like mob wives. The same week that Trivieri’s video went viral, The Sopranos celebrated its 25th anniversary (and joined TikTok). However, Trivieri claims she had “no idea” about the milestone for the HBO series at the time she posted it; she said she was just reacting to what she saw on the streets of New York City, where she lives. All of this serves as a reminder of what we may have been missing or are just now learning about.

Italian-born Trivieri notes in her video that the “clean girl aesthetic”—a subdued, Sofia Richie-like beauty look and oblique wealth style—is being replaced by the mob wife aesthetic, which is a welcome shift in trends. It also tracks the general upsurge in girlish aesthetics in popularity, from Barbiecore to coquette. In contrast, the mob wife appears to be a bit more mature. She is a wife—that much is clear from the name! She identifies as a woman, not a girl. She has confidence in her sexuality. Her ziti is placed on the table. Furthermore, she is well aware of how the world functions and knows how to take advantage of it.

Trivieri added, “I think this is a little bit more mature, sexier, and bold. The whole Y2K thing felt a little younger.” She was referring to the recent surge in popularity of low-rise jeans, ballet flats, and going-out tops—styles that came about in the wake of the 1999 Sopranos premiere. “Standing on business is the key to being a mob wife,” she went on, referencing another well-known TikTok phrase that, in her opinion, refers to having self-assurance and confidence.

“It’s not about having the most expensive outfit,” Trivieri clarifies, even though the mob wife aesthetic and the waste management wealth it implies are anything but stealthy. Instead, she claims, “It’s an aura, an energy.” It all boils down to being audacious and daring. It says “basta” to current status-driven beige brands such as Toteme and The Row, as well as to minimalism.

Although I wouldn’t call it a runway trend, Schiaparelli‘s bold silhouettes and large jewelry, Alaïa‘s black leather and bodycon, and, of course, Italian designers like Versace, Gucci, and Dolce & Gabbana all contribute to the mob wife aesthetic.

Conclusion: 2024 is the year to forget about the clean girl look and welcome back the mob wife aesthetic.
