Paris Fashion Week 2024: The summary of the event

Paris Fashion Week 2024 started on Monday 26 February, and ends today, on Tuesday 5 March. But what were the most interesting events? Discover the summary of the week.

PARIS FASHION WEEK 2024: THE SUMMARY OF THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENTS

Paris Fashion Week is the most eagerly awaited and most important fashion week and will last a total of 9 very intense days, during which we will continue to witness the presentations of the autumn/winter 2024/2025 collections of some of the major fashion houses.

BUT WHAT WERE THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENTS OF THE PARIS FASHION WEEK 2024?

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 26 – Summary

IFM MASTER OF ARTS, 3 P.M. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Paris Fashion Week opened on Monday 26 February with a show organised in collaboration with the Institut français de la mode, specifically the Master of Arts. The fashion show gave as many as 27 students, of 13 different nationalities, the opportunity to exhibit some of their creations, for a total of 158 looks proposed.

The show was a hymn to individualism and imagination, with a vast experimentation of constructions and deconstructions that allowed the creative expression of young students from one of the world’s leading fashion schools.

The show opened with an oversized jumper covered entirely in leather leaves, proposed by Quinhan Liu, and then continued with the collections of the other 26 designers, in which we noted the presence of themes already recurring on the catwalks, such as the revisitation of the typical cowboy style, tailored dresses, oversieze workwear, dresses with darker silhouettes that highlight the femininity of the bodies, and then ended with the most extravagant imprint with queer vibes by Jude Macasinag.

Others of the 27 names were Enrico De Marchi (48-53), Vincent Sung Park (125-130), Younes Benbousselham (66-71), Kira Zander (7-12), Sofia Saerens (19-24) and Min Wang.

All in all, the IFM Master of Arts fashion show was very much appreciated, as it gave us the opportunity to get a glimpse of the new approaches of up-and-coming young designers, who may very soon start to occupy a major role in the fashion industry.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27 – Summary

CHRISTIAN DIOR, 2.30 P.M. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Dior’s autumn/winter 2024/2025 collection was a tribute to the brand’s history, in particular the launch of the Miss Dior ready-to-wear line, inspired by Gabriella Crespi, a prominent architect and interior designer who graduated from the Milan Polytechnic. She was also the muse of Marc Bohan, the creative director of the 1960s, who decided to create this line dedicated to women and their sense of independence.

The ‘Miss Dior’ inscriptions brushed on the proposed clothes are like a manifesto of the emancipation of women, protagonists in these years of great social change. The silhouettes of the collection do nothing but give women the chance to feel themselves in their clothes, without being hindered in any way, but rather facilitated in their conquest of the future that awaits them.

Accompanying the collection were the works of the Indian artist Shakuntala Kulkarni, who proposes a reflection on the female body and the armour in which it is constrained, in stark contrast to Chiuri’s proposals, which do nothing more than allow the body the freedom to express itself to the full, accompanying the woman towards her own goals and emancipation.

SAINT LAURENT, 8 PM. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

The autumn/winter proposal by Anthony Vaccarello, creative director of Saint Laurent, wanted to combine history, sensuality and extreme elegance. The nude look predominated, in fact we saw the models parade in completely transparent dresses, showing the body in its integrity.

It was Yves Saint Laurent himself who claimed in 1968 that “Nothing is more beautiful than a naked body”, right at the time of the sexual revolution and women’s emancipation. The collection was inspired by the iconic dress worn in the same year by Danielle Luquet de Saint Germain, the designer’s main muse, a completely transparent chiffon dress embellished with a marabou feather belt, which left the woman’s breasts completely exposed.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 first days

In short, if nowadays it is quite common to find nude looks on the catwalks, at the time the fashion house certainly took a bold and important step. Anthony Vaccarello posed a question to the press:

“Can purity be provocative?”

Paired with the transparent dresses were fur stoles and jackets in oversize formats, as well as oversized jewellery in soft colours and transparent materials.

Wednesday, February 28 – Summary

Courreges, 10.30 a.m. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

There was another reminder of the 1960s with the Courreges fashion show during the third day of Paris Fashion Week 2024, albeit combined with a sense of futurism and a very strong reference to the sexual sphere, especially the female one.

The taboo of female pleasure was completely cleared by Courreges’ proposals, enriched by the presence of a front pocket, placed at the models’ lower abdomen. In addition to this, the appeal to the intimate sphere is carried by most of the garments, including slip dresses and lingerie dresses, sometimes worn by sensually letting one of the two straps slip over the arm.

The intimacy of the show is also conveyed by the soundtrack: a female sigh, accompanied by the floor ‘breathing’ and the woman’s voice repeating ‘Take it slow, take it slow’. We also notice on the set a series of sculptures by Rémy Brière, simulating clothes thrown on the floor.

Rochas, 11am. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Paris Fashion Week 2024 also witnessed the debut of Alessandro Vigilante, the fashion house’s new creative director, who presented a collection inspired by the fashion house’s archives from the 1930s, a period when Marcel Rochas focused on the expression of youth and vitality.

Specifically, the inspiration was a shot by Carlo Mollino, entitled ‘Fairytales for Adults’ and taken in 1939, which featured a model wearing a satin dress. In the collection, in fact, we find quilted satin, velvets and transparencies, micro clutches and games with exaggerated volumes.

The Row, 12:o0. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

The Row’s Paris Fashion Week 2024 fashion show caused quite a stir, but not because of its looks, but because of their secrecy. The fashion house, founded by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, would in fact have expressly requested that none of its guests film or divulge parts of the event, which was to remain exclusively for those whom The Row had decided to involve.

The brand’s request touched the next level of confidentiality and exclusivity, embracing in an extreme way the concept of quiet luxury that has always distinguished them.

In short, it will be impossible to attach an image of the fashion show: it will be necessary to wait until the brand decides to release some official shots, although apparently this will not be something that will happen in the short term.

Casablanca, 5 p.m. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Casablanca’s fashion show at Paris Fashion Week 2024 proposed the theme of Ancient Greece, developing a path to explore the past and future of human nature.

Adding to the atmosphere were the dancers, who performed a choreography using mainly coordinated arm movements, accompanied by Björk’s song ‘Venus as a Boy’. Opening the blowout was the viral supermodel Alex Consani, in an ethereal total white.

Acne studios, 6.30 p.m. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Jonny Johansson, creative director of Acne Studios, proposed a collection aimed at highlighting a strong and decisive femininity, highlighted by the cuts that sculpt the body and its shapes, leaving some parts visible thanks to the play of transparencies. There were proposals in leather, knitwear, denim and fur.

Balmain, 8 p.m. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

For Balmain’s autumn/winter collection Olivier Rousteing decided to honour his origins, namely the city of Bordeaux. The sumptuous grape motifs are, in fact, derived from one of the town’s specialities, the Cru Bourgeois wines. The Paris Fashion Week 2024 collection proposed a series of trench coats with revisited designs and enriched with the house’s typical buttons, together with jackets and precious evening dresses, embellished with extremely luminous appliqués and combined with jewels.

Thursday, February 29 – Summary

Rick Owens, 9.30 a.m. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

For Fall/Winter 2024, Rick Owens sticks to his original plan and pays tribute to his modest beginnings in the Southern Sierra Nevada with a womenswear line.

Owens talks about his childhood;

“growing up in a judgmental environment,” as the show notes read. “In past interviews, I have mentioned my stern father not allowing a TV in the house, but I underplayed the significance of what he replaced it with — opera. Stories of aching, longing, and disappointment, set to rapturous music reaching for transcendency by Puccini, Wagner, Purcell, Strauss…and every evening he would softly read Edgar Rice Burroughs paperbacks to me.”

Owens creates otherworldly heroes and villains to bring the written characters to life. He regretfully says, “This was the world I longed to leave Porterville for.” The bold intergalactic collection imagines the heroes of the future wearing the voluminous footwear, hooded capes, and strong-shouldered tops that made a big impression the previous season.

To protect yourself from approaching monsters, wear fuzzy cloaks with flared skirts, and his signature cropped bombers transform into waist-cinching spheres of defense. Brave floor-length hoodies and collarless blazers sweep the runway, and five wired looks that showcase his sculptural prowess round out the collection.

Off-White, 11.30 a.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Ib Kamara, the Off-White creative director, maintained the momentum with his collection “Black by Popular Demand,” which reflected elements of American culture, sports, African Americanness, and showbiz glamour. Kamara commented:

“Off-White is Black and was founded by an African American genius, and African American culture and American culture is so loud and has such a big presence globally. For us, to come back and show it’s important that legacy lives on.”

His favorite game, Ludo, served as the inspiration for the runway setup, which featured enormous, bejeweled dice in the middle for guests to pose for pictures, including Serena Williams, Willow Smith, and Coco Rocha.

With a focus on styling, the multihyphenate editor, stylist, and designer created a collection that featured a lot of inside-out tailoring and workwear with exposed lime green seams, faux fur trim, utility straps, zips, and bedazzled buttons—all of which could have benefited from a lighter touch.

The knitwear was particularly striking, featuring halter tops, minidresses, and skirts that combined American varsity stripes with traditional African clothing and beadwork elements.

Givenchy, 3 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Givenchy’s Fall Winter 2024–2025 collection evoked the spirit of the brand’s founder, Hubert de Givenchy, while incorporating contemporary elements appropriate for the twenty-first century. It paid homage to the brand’s legacy of classic elegance and Hollywood glamour. Following the departure of creative director Matthew M. Williams, Givenchy debuted a collection that honored the brand’s red carpet appeal and couture heritage during a season of transition.

In front of the famed salons on Avenue George V, Givenchy displayed a selection of cocktail and evening gowns that harked back to the heyday of haute couture. A modern take on classic silhouettes, swing coats, draped pencil skirts, and little black dresses evoked Audrey Hepburn’s timeless sophistication.

Rabanne, 4.30 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Creative Director Julien Dossena steps away from the house’s signature chromes and metallics in favor of eclectic prints, colorful patchwork, boxy shoulders, and plush layers, following last season’s collection full of glam gladiator looks. It embodies maximalism in every sense of the word: each model has an ample amount of clothing piled on top of them, and the color scheme, silhouettes, and patterns are all strikingly varied.

Dossena plays with puffer material, lilac voile, sequins, yellow fringe, tartan, marled fibers, gabardine wool, burnt orange corduroy, quilted leather, and fur all in one collection. Some of the brand’s hallmarks, such as the metallic accessories, the rhinestone fringe peeking out from under all that knitwear, and the gem-studded tights, are used to highlight it.

Rabanne: new collection

Schiaparelli, 7 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Daniel Roseberry wants women to project themselves into his clothing now that he has their attention. Though these are daily wearable outfits, he’s still working at the highest levels of luxury ready-to-wear.

With suits that included a new high-waisted, low-crotch pant that pooled around the feet, the Texan designer provided a stylish interpretation of the Western trend. They arrived wearing hair braids as ties and cowboy boots inlaid with a molded ear adorned with rhinestone piercings.

Surrealist elements were also evident in outerwear, such as the skeleton quilting on a cropped puffer jacket or the gold nipple-shaped buttons on a fuzzy cream coat. The maxi shoulders and neon shearling gave off a strong, brassy vibe that was reminiscent of the late designer Claude Montana, whose spirit is watching over this season.

The creative director said:

“I really feel like there’s confidence in simplicity. For me, this is really about something more bare, something more raw.”

Friday, March 1 – Summary

Loewe, 11.30 a.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

The autumn/winter collection presented at Paris Fashion Week was Loewe’s revisited proposal of the Garden of Eden, with a tribute to the art of an American artist, Albert York, whose works adorned the gallery in which the show took place.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

On the catwalk we saw the presence of details linked to the world of nature, including a bag made of colourful beaded asparagus, or details of animals and vegetables, such as red and white turnips, sweet potatoes, tubers and roots embroidered on clothes. In addition to this, there was no shortage of flowers, which were juxtaposed with proposals that recalled wood inlays, used especially to embellish the collars of coats.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

In summary, the Spanish fashion house wanted to offer us a strong celebration of nature and most of its components, as well as art, while remaining faithful to certain details that we have already seen during the presentation of the men’s collection, such as the large buckles.

Giambattista Valli, 2.30 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Another collection inspired by the theme of nature was undoubtedly that of Giambattista Valli, with a series of proposals enriched by pastel-coloured floral details, combined with an interesting play on volumes and proportions, created by overlapping mottled silks instead of the typical tulle.

Paris Fashion Week 2024

Nina Ricci, 4 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

The brand’s proposal for Paris Fashion Week was an autumn/winter collection totally dominated by a daring sensuality with a dramatic tone, expressed through an abundance of lace and transparencies, combined with exaggerated bows in different shapes, from softer to more geometric. The colour palette is sombre, with a prevalence of black, together with touches of creamy white, bright red and purple.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

The models’ determined catwalk further conveys the sense of extreme empowerment that characterises the proposals, adding an almost theatrical tone.

Vetements, 5.30 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Vetements returned with its creative director Guram Gvasalia to the catwalks of Paris Fashion Week 2024, after being absent for two years. The show took place on rue Cambon, the same street as Chanel’s main store.

We saw blazers, hooded dresses, leather jackets, jumpers and cargo trousers, all characterised by exaggeratedly oversized proportions and long trainers, juxtaposed with glittering evening gowns with more fitted silhouettes, capable of showing and enveloping the body shapes.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

Georgina Rodríguez made her entrance wearing a football dress-shirt autographed by her husband Cristiano Ronaldo. On the front was the champion’s signature, while on the back was a handwritten dedication, which read ‘For the love of my life’.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

Guram Gvasalia’s show was delayed: the show started more than 50 minutes late, despite the very important guests involved in the front row, including the legendary Cher. Other guests were Tyga, Antoine Arnault, Tommy Cash, Julia Fox and Michèle Lamy, Olivier Rousteing, Fedez, Willow Smith and Noah Cyrus.

Yohji Yamamoto, 11.30 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Yohji Yamamoto’s proposal for Paris Fashion Week 2024 was a collection based on almost cubist geometric games, such as squares, triangles, fabric spirals and ruffles, combined with extensive use of tartan.

Moreover, Yamamoto prefers to hire new faces among the models, some of whom have only just arrived in the French capital.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

Victoria Beckham, 5.30 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Victoria Beckham’s fashion show was held at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild, famous for hosting Haute Couture collections.

The autumn/winter 2024/2025 collection presented many different silhouettes of jackets, dresses and trousers, among which we saw leather cargo jackets and overcoats with asymmetrical cuts. Mini-dresses have the peculiarity of having very pronounced padded edges, sometimes with a maxi sweetheart neckline, while we find other dresses embellished with metal inserts that recall shapes used by Picasso in his works.

Summary

In addition, the fashion show was interrupted by the intervention of three activists from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), a non-profit organisation supporting animal rights.

The designer made her entrance on the catwalk at the end of the show, carrying crutches due to a fractured ankle in February.

Saturday, March 2 – Summary

Vivienne Westwood, 1 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Vivienne Westwood’s fashion show during Paris Fashion Week 2024 presented a collection with very particular tones, designed by Andreas Kronthaler.

The main inspiration was the history of costume, with a strong reference to the late Renaissance period, inspired by the works of Gian Battista Moroni, whose exhibition the creative director visited in Milan, which reminded him of his first moments alongside the famous Vivienne. The work that inspired him the most was undoubtedly ‘Il Sarto’, as Kronthaler himself said.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

One of the most extravagant as well as most recurring elements in the autumn/winter 2024/2025 collection was the jockstrap pouch, which turns out to be a combination of a late Renaissance accessory, worn by men in the late Renaissance, together with strictly separate socks, and a protective element, similar to sportswear, also because of the technical fabric it was made of. Despite being a typically male accessory, it was worn on the catwalk by men and women without distinction.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

Other garments included Turkish-style trousers combined with colourful tights, velvet jackets, waistcoats, dresses with oversized volumes and ruffles, lace-up boots and boots with vertiginous heels and platforms. Another must-have detail was the classic Vivienne Westwood tartan.

Extremely well-known faces appeared on the catwalk, such as Sam Smith, who sported two different outfits, Lila Moss and the iconic Kristen Mcmenamy.

Paris Fashion Week 2024

Andreas Kronthaler explained in a note:

‘Elegance is about how a person moves through life. It has nothing to do with what you wear or the perfume you put on, it is about what you do with your inner self. It means a lot to us to know that there was life before ours.”

Hermès, 2.30 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

The collection proposed by Hermès for Paris Fashion Week 2024 was a union between motorbike and equestrian clothing, both aimed at devolving the decisive image of a strong and sensual woman.

There are many items in which this union is explicitly recognisable: for example, we find a studded jacket that recalls the structure of a saddle or riding trousers that become leather leggings.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

The colour palette is rather dull, in line with autumn/winter: dark burgundy, various shades of brown, tope, dull yellow, grey and khaki predominate, broken up by vibrant red leather proposals.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

Alexander McQueen, 1 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

The Alexander Mcqueen show at Paris Fashion Week saw the presentation of the first collection by Seàn McGirr, the fashion house’s new artistic director.

McGirr chose to open the autumn/winter 2024/2025 show with a dress inspired by the No. 10 look from The Birds collection, proposed in 1995 by Alexander McQueen himself and inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s film.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

After Sarah Burton’s creative direction, the will would seem to be to normalise the McQueen expression, although leaving room for some rather eccentric impulses, such as the exaggeratedly proportioned double-necked jumpers or those with a wide collar that reaches up to hide the shoulders and part of the face, almost as if it were a goblet, or the shoes that emulate a horse’s hoof.

Paris Fashion Week 2024

To close, 3 very different looks are presented, consisting of 3 extremely structured dresses sculpted by David Hammonds, almost simulating car bodywork: we find them in lime green, electric blue and black.

Sunday, March 3 – Summary

Balenciaga, 11.30 a.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

To invite guests to the show, Balenciaga sent them each a unique, vintage eBay package; this DIY spirit was the ideal introduction to Demna’s Fall/Winter 2024 venture. For the brand’s Paris Fashion Week catwalk, Balenciaga delves into the existential query that haunts a lot of industry insiders: what exactly is fashion?

The designer decided to came public and explain te collection:

“As you know, I like to question things that matter to me through my work, and some of the questions I have been thinking about recently are: what is luxury? What is fashion and why does it even matter? Who do I do what I do for? Is fashion enough? In a world oversaturated by content, is anything ever enough. What is enough? The important part is not necessarily finding answers, but the process of questioning in itself.”

“I wanted this show to represent a link between the past and the future of Balenciaga as a house based on creative value. It starts with silhouettes and themes directly inspired by the legacy of Cristóbal and evolves into further experimentation with the ideas that make up my body of work: the rethinking of the concept of beauty, the forging of an immediately recognizable style and the consideration of how the body interacts with garments.”

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

Valentino, 3 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Black is associated with sadness and witchcraft, chaos and rebellion, but it also represents power and grace. Piccioli used it to explore the theme of masculine-feminine duality that runs through his work by interpreting the house codes of the 1980s in a new way.

By combining a sheer chiffon baby doll with a suit jacket or adding fabric whorls resembling roses to the sleeves of a sharp-shouldered micro tunic dress, he subverted the power dressing of the time. However, a modern chief executive officer would probably choose a structured cape over a slouchy pair of pants and a chiffon pussy-bow blouse instead—power dressing on a woman’s terms.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

Mugler, 8.30 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

The first piece from the designer this season was a homage to Mugler’s 1980s collection, which brought a sinister atmosphere to attractive evening gowns with frequently fantastical proportions.

The second act saw the introduction of a printmaking partnership with Canadian painter Ambera Wellmann, whose paintings show human bodies caught between “play and violence, movement and dissolution.” Her creations became the focal points of vibrant gowns, striking shoes, revealing tops, tense trousers and wrapped skirts. Alongside classic all-black pieces like bodysuits with collars, fitted dress pants and more sheerness, her signature patterns found balance.

In her final act, Cadwallader played with leather to create an abundance of evening wear fit for a party. To create dancing mini dresses in black and red, the fabric was cut into fine strips and mixed with fringed fabric. In nappa versions, leather created puffed-up bomber jackets for menswear, and the textile created the foundation for shawls in patent forms.

Monday, March 4 – Summary

Stella McCartney, 10 a.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

The pieces in Stella McCartney’s FW24 collection are deeply rooted in her DNA and reveal the designer’s everyday wardrobe. Linda McCartney, the mother of the designer, is honoured with strong-shoulder, fluid-fitting womenswear that pays homage to her 1970s style. Bold, long-haired coats tinted in pastel pinks complement slouchy double-breasted suits with broad shoulder padding. Her glistening qualities can be seen in her dramatic, one-of-a-kind gowns as well as in patchwork denim and embroidered cocktail dresses.

Resurrected with a rebellious identity, the designer’s signature looks combine feminine and masculine refinement in romantic looks, panelled suits, and knitted co-ords. Sleek aviator jackets and embroidered trench coats are paired with diamond-shaped panels of wool tweed fabrics that were inspired by McCartney’s childhood home. This season, the knitwear—which included statement-making high-neck dresses in regenerated cashmere and floor-length scarves adorned with hand-knitted ropes—definitely stole the show.

Pierre Cardin, 6.30 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

A cyberwoman wearing a golden helmet rises up from the ocean’s depths. With images of the underwater world projected in psychedelic light effects on all surfaces, Pierre Cardin’s fashion show at the Atelier des lumières opens with this striking image.

Against the backdrop of the vast blue, onlookers observe well-crafted lines from the 1960s silhouetted between sharks and jellyfish. With an eye towards the future and otherworldly realms, ergonomic shapes are accentuated by vinyl accents and logos that pay homage to the maison’s archives. The fashion show ends with an expressive wave movement, showcasing the Moray women’s dresses that breathe like anemones. The distance from the moon to a made-up Atlantis is not very great.

Coperni, 8 p.m – Paris Fashion Week 2024

The story of Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant’s close encounters with extraterrestrial beings is presented in a film studio located outside of Paris. Like in the renowned Steven Spielberg film, a massive tower communicates with space through coded messages.

A platoon of otherworldly beings with glassy eyes and lacquered hair makes their way to Earth to take over the planet while wearing transparent white jumpsuits, tinfoil dresses, and skirts with hanging bottoms, along with body jackets worn bare-legged like spaceship uniforms. Plastic bagged bags appear like artefacts from another planet, much like the 99% air bag. In the grand finale, in which the audience is rendered motionless by blinding light and subjugated by an extraterrestrial invasion, Saturnian rings adorn the evening gowns.

Tuesday, March 5 – Summary

Chanel, 10.30 a.m. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Claude Lelouch’s signature song, “Un uomo, una donna,” was played and instantly created a mystical atmosphere throughout the hallway. Additionally, the pictures that were signed by Vinoodh and Inez are what honour them in the movie that is shown on the show’s large screen. In addition, we could experience the sea air of Mademoiselle Coco’s favourite town of Deauville, where she established her first boutique, just as in the movie starring Anouk Aimée and Jean-Louis Trintignant at the time.

Virginie Viard draws inspiration from this point of view once more and incorporates these emotions into her collection. The softness of knit suits, floor-length dusters, and big hats secured with a broche to block out the wind. Sheepskin and panta-gonne are used for purses, double-breasted coats, and boots. With a mash-up of 1920s vibes and a vague Seventies flou feel, mixed with trouser suits similar to the boyish ones Coco herself had launched.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

Miu Miu, 2 p.m. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

With Cécile B. Evans’ video installation, being a reflection of AI, the Palais d’Iéna’s walls are covered in a digital narrative that accompanies the Miu Miu clothing as it moves on stage, symbolising the passage of time.

Miuccia Prada said:

“This collection is about life, about experiences expressed through clothes. Between childhood and adulthood there is a space that fascinates me: it is the moment when character is formed. This is a collection that speaks of those personal and individual moments.”

Real-life performers and professional models are paired with actresses Kristin Scott Thomas and Ángela Molina to create a transverse cast that embodies the dualism. Childhood is embodied through archetypes like small shoes with rounded toes, dresses of short cloth worn with wool tights, tailored coats with contracted proportions, and smocks that resemble raw-cut aprons shaped at the hips. Childhood is an age of freedom of expression and rule-breaking.

Paris Fashion Week 2024 summary

The idea of carelessly mixing appropriate and inappropriate clothing, like pyjamas and outerwear, embodies the impetuous nature that defines this stage of life. Knits and cashmere sweaters and cardigans, poplin skirts paired with knits, and shearling treated to resemble fur are examples of ties and fusions that bring disparate pieces together.

Louis Vuitton, 7 p.m. – Paris Fashion Week 2024

Nicolas Ghesquière’s Fall/Winter 2024 show pays homage to his past on the occasion of his tenth year at Louis Vuitton. Ghesquière wrote a typewritten note for each of the thousands of people who came to his show at the Cour Carrée du Louvre, just as he did on his debut. He wrote:

“This joy is still here. Ten years later, this evening is a new dawn.”

Although this collection honours his career to date, evolution is important to Ghesquière. Every collection that Ghesquière creates is treated as if it were his first. This collection demonstrates how he created looks that both honour his dedication to designing fashion for the future and celebrate his esteemed vision from the past.

Metallic prints, leather-featured ensembles, and feather accents were all present in his debut collection, as well as other elements. However, compared to his Fall/Winter 2014 collection featured 2010s-inspired pieces like the cult-like A-line skirts and skinny pants, his current collection uses 2024-inspired silhouettes and designs. This is evident in the numerous sheer pieces, the baggy leather pants, the flamboyant fur coats, some oversized knit pieces and more.
