“The New Look” Dior series 2024

The new series “The New Look” on the Apple TV streaming platform premieres this week. The series, which was announced a few months ago, chronicles the difficulties that the House of Dior and its founder encountered during World War II.

“The New Look” series about Dior is going to be launched this week on Apple Tv

It’s now the turn of Christian Dior’s history to make its small-screen premiere on Disney+, following in the footsteps of Cristobal Balenciaga. Accessible on Apple TV starting on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, “The New Look” takes viewers back to a significant time in the French fashion house’s history. It follows Monsieur Dior’s ascent in the intricate political, social, and economic milieu of the Nazi occupation over the course of ten episodes.

It’s also a chance to showcase the designer’s modern influences and connections to fashion designers like Pierre Balmain, Coco Chanel, and Cristobal Balenciaga.

With an international cast, the series, which is centered around the Parisian fashion house’s heritage DNA, hopes to appeal to a broader audience. The designer is portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn (“Bloodlines”), with Maisie Williams (“Game of Thrones”) providing the features of his sister and inspiration, Catherine. Hugo Becker, Glenn Close, John Malkovich, and Juliette Binoche are also in the cast.

Filmed in Paris, the series showcases costumes and an original soundtrack by Jack Antonoff, which includes Nick Cave, Lana Del Rey, Florence Welch, and Perfume Genius covering songs from the first half of the 20th century.

The series also explores the relationship between Dior and his sister Catherine, who served as the inspiration for the Miss Dior fragrance and is portrayed by Maisie Williams. Catherine was a member of the French Resistance. She is captured by Nazi officers and subjected to horrific scenes of torture before being transferred to the Ravensbrück concentration camp.

Karen Muller Serreau is the costume designer and she said, related to the sister:

“You want to make her glamorous because she’s Dior’s sister, somehow, and yet she was this hard-working resistant. So it was quite interesting, pulling yourself away from this desire to make her into this kind of glamorous character.”

In charge of the camera are Todd A. Kessler, Helen Shaver, Jeremy Podeswa, and French filmmaker Julia Ducourneau, who took home the Palme d’Or for her feature film Titane at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

The phrase “simplicity and practicality during the long years of World War II” is taken from Snow’s remark when she saw Dior’s first collection in 1947. It was a 90-piece jubilation of opulence and elegance that revolutionized the French style of the time.

Following the end of the conflict, Dior’s renowned and now classic hourglass silhouette—characterized by narrow waists and sweeping skirts—seemed to emerge from a forbidden dream. It is therefore not surprising that Coco Chanel, the creator of a movement-focused style known for its sporty fabrics and casual cuts, was its most well-known creative rival.

What to see following “The New Look”

The new serial releases at the beginning of the year put a strong emphasis on fashion, to the point where you could visit Disney+ for “Cristóbal Balenciaga” and go straight from one designer to the next. On the other hand, if you’re interested in learning more about American design, you can watch “Halston’s” wild and glamorous life on Netflix. If you want to escape the world of biopics without leaving the world of fashion, you can watch all five seasons of the fantastic dramedy “The Bold Type” on Amazon Prime Video.

Conclusion: “The New Look” is the new series about Dior and is going to be launch tomorrow on Apple Tv.
