The new podcast about Salvatore Ferragamo

There is a new podcast coming up that promises to unveils everything about Salvatore Farragamo. The eight-part audio series from the Italian fashion house delves into its history through the words of two female experts.

Ferragamo reveals its history in an eight-episode podcast

This month, Ferragamo is going to launch a new podcast series called “Shoemaker of Dreams”, which will follow the founder’s footsteps as they chronicle the beginnings and ascent of the Italian fashion house.

The eight-part series centres on the life of the designer, the man “who transformed shoes into timeless works of art,” and was created for the Museo Ferragamo by the Italian podcast company Chora Media.

A 2023 study conducted by the Consumer Science & Analytics Institute and the communications firm Havas Paris, which CBNews reported, found that 86% of French weekly listeners think native podcasts—which aren’t connected to a radio or television channel—are an effective way for brands to express themselves.

Although 71% of the panel’s listeners are encouraged to make changes in their daily lives by this kind of podcast, 81% of respondents stated that brands build stronger relationships with their customers when they release audio content.

For a few years now, the luxury goods industry has had a clear understanding of this trend in communication. L’École des Arts Joailliers’s secrets of the world’s most valuable jewels, audio content on Dior’s artistic directors, and Grand Seiko’s inaugural podcast… The premium players consistently provide podcasts that draw from their past or focus on a particular topic from their legacy, as evidenced by these latest launches.

The designer has embraced this narrative style, which does not rely on timing or aesthetic coherence. The eight 20-minute episodes of the podcast “Salvatore Ferragamo. The shoemaker of dreams” were released by the Italian fashion house on March 11. The content tells the story of Salvatore Ferragamo’s journey from Italy to Hollywood, including the backstory of the establishment of his own brand in 1928 and his ascent to prominence in the shoe industry.

The podcast features insightful commentary from historian Elvira Valleri and director of the Museo Ferragamo Stefania Ricci, and is based on passages from the designer’s autobiography. The museum will have an exhibition honouring the founder’s career and the history of the company through November 4, 2024.

In the first episode, his love for shoes is chronicled, beginning when, at the age of nine, he made two small white pairs of shoes for his sisters’ communion. In the second episode, the designer travels to California and begins producing shoes for the Santa Barbara film studios.

Other highlights from the series include his experiences during World War II, his first store opening in Hollywood, his invention of the cork wedge, and the difficulty of starting a fashion business that would dress his clients “from toe to head.”

The brand hopes to attract both new and devoted customers by strengthening its storytelling and building its brand image through these two campaigns. This gearbox mission is both strategic and necessary for the company to maintain its legacy, as luxury consumers purchase not only a product but also a piece of its past.

Thus, the podcasts and exhibition may influence consumer purchasing decisions and help the brand possibly experience a growth spurt. The brand’s sales dropped to €1.16 billion in 2023, a 7.6% decrease.

The initial episodes are currently accessible on Apple Podcast, Spreaker, and Spotify.

Conclusion: Ferragamo is launching a new eight-episode podcast about its history.
